Vloga vodstva v kriznih situacijah

Kriza se lahko zgodi kadarkoli in komurkoli. Nihče ni imun na nepredvidljive dogodke, ki lahko škodijo podjetju, vodstvu podjetja, zaposlenim ali drugim deležnikom. Božidar Novak v svoji knjigi Krizno komuniciranje in upravljanje nevarnosti pravi, da se mnoge ogranizacije ob izbruhu krize prično zgovarjati, da niso imele dovolj finančnih sredstev za vzpostavitev vzvodov preprečevanja kriznih situacij. Takšno razmišljanje je značilno predvsem za organizacije, ki so zmotno prepričane, da se njim kriza ne more pripetiti. Resnici na ljubo, nihče si ne želi priznati napake, ko je škoda že storjena.

Kakovosten manager mora biti pripravljen na krizno situacijo. Pripravljen v smislu obvladovanja posledic, ki jih kriza povzroča vsem deležnikom podjetja in/ali širšem družbenem okolju. V vsega nekaj urah je prispel na kraj nesreče. Takoj je prevzel vodenje reševalne akcije. Medije je kontinuirano obveščal o poteku reševalne akcije. Skratka odzval se je kot po kakšnem dobrem učbeniku odnosov z javnostmi in kriznega komuniciranja.

Ugleda si organizacija ne more ustvariti čez noč. Lahko ga pa izgubi v nekaj minutah, tako je v svoji knjigi zapisal Božidar Novak. In pomanjkanje prisotnosti odgovornih na kraju nesreče lahko povzroči, da v nekaj minutah milijarde dolarjev vloženih v dobro ime podjetja izpuhte neznano kam. Tako kot se je to zgodilo izvršnemu direktorju podjetja Exxon leta 1989. Dolgo odlašanje izvršnega direktorja pri obisku kraja nesreče je zelo intenziviralo javni bes, ki se je odrazil v močno načetem ugledu podjetja Exxon.

Tudi v primeru sesutja rudnika podjetja Murray Energy Corporation ni šlo vse gladko. Izvršni direktor je po začetnih uspehih zašel v obtoževanje medijev in iskanje krivcev za nesrečo zunaj podjetja. Božidar Novak tovrstno konfliktno reševanje krizne situacije poimenuje kot strategija morskega psa. Murray je kot morski pes poskušal svoje nasprotnike prisiliti, da sprejmejo njegovo obliko reševanja problema. Po mnenju Božidarja Novaka, je strategija morskega psa navadno uspešna v trenutkih, kadar je cilj pomemben, odnos pa ne. V tem primeru si je Murray za cilj izbral popolno očiščenje krivde, čemu pa so nasprotovala vsa objektivna dejstva nesreče.
